EATING AND WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

Eating, and our relationship with food, impacts on our lives each and every day. It has a direct connection with our psychological and physical health and wellbeing. We are reminded of this at every turn and, if we have a poor relationship with ourselves, it is likely that this, to a greater or lesser extent, will be affected by our relationship with what we eat. Food is intrinsically linked to body image and to exercise – by ourselves and by the media. We may use food for comfort or we may not recognise that we have an unhealthy relationship with food or with exercise that is affecting our health and well-being. Self esteem can suffer accordingly and we can feel trapped in a downward spiral. However, with support, there is hope and you can change, once you take that first step.

Our approach

Working Minds approach provides a holistic service, which considers the person as a whole. We look carefully at the clients’ history and create a picture of what has led the client to be where they are now. We seek to understand the issues, work with them, and empower the client to take action in small, manageable steps that are not overwhelming. We will typically monitor the client’s physical health whilst simultaneously helping them deal with the root issues. This can involve therapies, such as CBT, Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Eating disorders can affect anyone, though most commonly they affect women and the pressure to be smaller. They can also be associated with men, for some men have a constant need to be bigger. It’s often quite difficult for men to accept that they have this disorder and that they have Bigorexia. Although, no eating disorder is gender specific.

We will work with your GP or associated services as required to ensure improvements are built upon and longer term change is maintained.

Over the course of the sessions I have had with Simon I have gone from someone who probably would not have been able to carry on for much longer the way that I was, to someone that is now looking forward to working and moving on with my life...
